France will assist the Palestinian Authority in developing a constitution for the future state, President Emmanuel Macron announced after talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The parties will create a joint committee for this purpose. The draft document has already been prepared and presented by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
“This committee will be responsible for working on all legal aspects, constitutional, institutional, and organizational,” Macron explained.
Work is currently underway to determine the final conditions necessary for the formation of a Palestinian state.
Mahmoud Abbas reaffirmed his commitment to reforms in the Palestinian Authority, as well as presidential and parliamentary elections, which will take place “one year after the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza.”
Earlier, several Western countries, including France, officially recognized the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly summit.
