Washington ready to help Lebanon disarm Hezbollah

Bloomberg reports that America is ready to help Lebanon disarm armed groups, including the Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

The United States has announced that it will help the Lebanese army implement the disarmament plan announced in August 2025, which Hezbollah's resistance has so far thwarted. American officials have also expressed readiness to support the stabilization of southern Lebanon, where Israel continues to strike Hezbollah positions.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who has been in office since January, has stressed the need to pressure Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon. Aoun noted that Israel must fully implement the terms of the ceasefire so that Lebanese forces can deploy on the southern border and implement the disarmament plan.

Last week, Israel carried out one of the most significant air strikes on Lebanon since the ceasefire brokered by the United States and France came into effect. The Israeli military said the strikes were aimed at Hezbollah's attempts to rebuild its military capabilities.

US special envoy Tom Barak said the Lebanese government was facing severe difficulties in disarming Hezbollah, as the group refused to hand over its weapons, citing Israeli aggression.
