Super Typhoon Fung-wong slammed into the Philippines on Sunday, killing two people and forcing the evacuation of nearly 1 million people. It is one of the strongest storms to hit the country this year.
The weather bureau PAGASA said the storm was approaching the northern part of Luzon, the archipelago’s most populous island, packing heavy rain, sustained winds of 185 km/h (115 mph), and gusts of up to 230 km/h (140 mph).
After passing over the island nation, Fung-wong is expected to turn north toward Taiwan and gradually weaken.
