Kazakhstan joins the Abraham Accords

Kazakhstan has joined the Abraham Accords, becoming the first country to do so during US President Donald Trump’s second term. Trump announced a phone call with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Abraham Accords are a series of peace agreements signed between Israel and several Arab states, including the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco, in 2020-2021. The United States acted as a mediator. The agreements are based on the normalization of diplomatic relations and the expansion of economic, technological, and defense cooperation between the parties.

“Kazakhstan is the first country to join the Abraham Accords during my second term. This is an important step in building bridges around the world,” Mr. Trump wrote on his Truth page.

The US president later told reporters that his visit to Kazakhstan was likely to occur. Mr. Trump said the country had “rich natural resources” and was led by a “wonderful president.”

Axios had reported the previous day that Kazakhstan was considering joining the Abraham Accords, citing a senior US official.
