US Special Representative for the Republic of Azerbaijan, Steve Witkoff, has praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his efforts to resolve the 30-year-old conflict with Armenia. He made the statement live on Fox News.
According to Witkoff, during a meeting in the Oval Office in August, Donald Trump directly asked Aliyev why he had not continued the offensive in the war against Armenia, despite having a strong army. The Azerbaijani president replied that his goal was only to return the occupied territories and that “he did not need anything more.”
“This was an example of a statesman who understood that if he went ahead, he would have international problems,” Witkoff said.
