Russia plans to send another 132 wagons loaded with wheat to Armenia via a new railway route via Azerbaijan by the end of January 2026, the Russian Transport Ministry said in a statement.
"The first batch of grain has been sent to Armenia via the territory of Azerbaijan by rail. Russian Railways has organized the shipment of over 1,000 tons of wheat from Dimitrovgrad Station in the Ulyanovsk region to Armenia. It is planned to send another 132 wagons of wheat via this route by the end of January 2026. Deliveries of other categories of cargo are also being developed," the statement said.
Earlier, Russian exports to Armenia were primarily carried out by road, via land border crossings, and by sea, via Georgian ports.
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that the organization of the new logistics route became possible due to the restoration of cargo transit to Armenia via Azerbaijan's territory.
"This is the first case of such transfers since the 1990s," the department concluded.
