The United States is preparing to establish a military presence at Damascus airport to help implement a security agreement brokered by Washington between Syria and Israel, six sources told Reuters.
The base is located at the beginning of areas in southern Syria that will become a demilitarized zone under a non-aggression pact between Israel and Syria. The Donald Trump administration is brokering the agreement.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will meet with Trump at the White House on Monday, the first visit by a Syrian leader.
