In Kazakhstan, on the shores of the Caspian Sea, 112 dead seals were found. This was reported by the Department of Ecology of the Mangistau region of the republic.
To determine the cause of the seal deaths, specialists collected samples of seawater.
This is not the first time that these animals have died on the shores of the Caspian Sea. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, in 2024, the cause could have been a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, a neuroviral infection against the background of immunodeficiency, and suffocation due to the release of natural gas from the seabed.
