Azerbaijanis have never suffered from the “disease of separatism”; on the contrary, they contribute to the development of the statehood of the countries in which they live. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan made this statement.
“When talking about Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, one cannot fail to touch upon the topic of Azerbaijan’s history. Unfortunately, for years, the Armenian side and the Diaspora have distorted our history, and this propaganda continues. We must oppose them with our scientific truths. Azerbaijanis must know their rich history, their ancient state traditions,” Aliyev said.
According to Aliyev, Azerbaijanis have never suffered from separatism.
“Therefore, the return of Azerbaijanis to their historical lands, present-day Armenia, should not frighten the Armenian people. I have already said that we must return there, not in tanks, but in cars. For this, both state structures and public organizations, and, of course, scientists, should work,” he added.
The Azerbaijani president claimed that old Russian imperial maps from the early 20th century clearly show that almost all toponyms in the territory of present-day Armenia are of Azerbaijani origin.
“There is no Lake Sevan, there is Lake Goycha. We did not make these maps. They were created by Tsarist Russia, which had previously relocated Armenians from Iran and Eastern Anatolia to Karabakh to alter the ethnic composition. These maps are a reflection of historical truth. We must study them and popularize them,” Aliyev said.
