Strong earthquake in Afghanistan

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif early Monday. It killed at least 10 people and injured about 260. The death toll is expected to rise.

The Taliban's Ministry of Defense said parts of Balkh and Samangan provinces were the worst hit.

Military rescue and emergency response teams immediately arrived at the site and began operations to rescue people, evacuate the injured, and provide assistance to affected families, the statement said.
