Hurricane Melissa, a Category 2 storm that passed northwest of Bermuda, has caused widespread destruction and loss of life.
The highest death toll was recorded in Haiti, with 30 people, including children, and in Jamaica, with 19. Cuba was hit, but no casualties were reported. The United States is reportedly sending rescue teams to the region.
