The United States has reduced the overall tariff rate on Chinese goods to 47%.
“We’ve reduced it. We’ve already seen the measures to combat fentanyl, and they’re taking very drastic measures. So the number has been reduced to 10%,” Trump said.
Trump added that the reduction would take effect immediately, meaning the overall tariff rate on Chinese exports to the United States would be reduced from 57% to 47%.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who was with Trump during the briefing, said that higher tariffs would still apply to particular products.
“It could go up to 100% on certain specific products.”
