Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered a significant airstrike on Gaza in response to Hamas violations, The Times of Israel reported.
Netanyahu reportedly decided after a security meeting. Shortly after the announcement, Israel launched at least three airstrikes on Gaza, with witnesses reporting explosions.
Palestinian sources said one of the strikes hit a residential area near Gaza's largest hospital, Shifa. There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries.
