The United States has given Germany six months to resolve the issue of ownership of Rosneft's German assets, Bloomberg reported.
The White House has offered its German counterparts the opportunity to grant Rosneft Deutschland a non-renewable, limited general license, Bloomberg reported. It should exempt the Rosneft subsidiary from sanctions for six months.
Rosneft Deutschland owns shares in three German refineries. They account for about 12% of the country's oil refining capacity. Another Rosneft subsidiary, RN Refining & Marketing, has been under external trusteeship of the Federal Network Agency since 2022.
In the near future, this agreement between the United States and Germany could reduce the risks that sanctions could seriously affect the German oil refining industry. However, as the agency notes, it will also increase pressure on Berlin.
Until now, Germany has refused to nationalize companies, fearing the consequences for its enterprises in Russia.
