The Lithuanian Prime Minister has announced the closure of the border with Belarus.
Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene said that the reason is repeated incidents: in the past week, the country's airports have been closed four times due to balloons loaded with smuggled cigarettes, which were launched from Belarus. These incidents led to the cancellation of more than 140 flights.
Ruginiene stressed that this is a clear signal to Belarus that hybrid attacks will not be tolerated. In addition, from Monday, the Lithuanian armed forces will take all necessary measures to shoot down these balloons.
