Riots broke out in Dublin on Tuesday evening, with thousands of people protesting outside a hotel housing asylum seekers.
A police van was set on fire, and bottles, bricks, and fireworks were thrown at it.
A police helicopter was also attacked, and lasers were used to blind it.
The protests began with the arrest of a 26-year-old migrant accused of abusing a 10-year-old girl.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, appeared in court on Tuesday, formally charged with sexual assault.
According to local media, the man asked for a Romanian interpreter in court, although police did not reveal his nationality or ethnicity.
