Vilnius airport paralyzed by balloons launched from Belarus

Vilnius airport was closed all night due to balloons loaded with smuggled cigarettes from Belarus.

A total of 13 smuggled balloons flew towards Vilnius airport at around 2 a.m., Delfi reports, citing the country’s national crisis management center.

The newspaper details that flights resumed only at 6:30 a.m.

The restrictions affected 9 flights and 900 passengers.

It is reported that several dozen balloons were launched from Belarus to Lithuania. 5 of them were found, and about 7,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes were seized.

Lithuania temporarily closed two border checkpoints with Belarus, but reopened them in the morning.
