US President Donald Trump asserted the United States holds military superiority over China and possesses advanced weapons systems unfamiliar to most observers.
At the start of a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the White House, reporters pressed him for comments on claims that the United States risks falling behind China for decades.
"You are reading the wrong newspapers. We are significantly ahead of China militarily. The United States leads them in every weapon category except shipbuilding. We will begin increasing production and close that gap," Trump said.
He emphasized the critical importance of artificial intelligence (AI) technology today.
"We are well ahead of China in both AI technology and military capability, as well as in deploying advanced weapons unknown to many," the US president added.
