Ceasefire restored in Gaza

The Israeli army said a ceasefire had been restored in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military struck Hamas targets across the territory, including field commanders, militants, tunnels, and weapons depots. The strikes came after the militants fired an anti-tank missile and opened fire on the troops, killing two soldiers.

The attacks killed at least 26 people, including at least one woman and one child, according to residents and health authorities. One strike targeted a former school in the Nuseirat area that was serving as a shelter for displaced residents.

US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire he brokered was still in effect. He said the Hamas leadership was unlikely to be involved in the violations. "We believe the leadership may not be involved," Trump said, adding: "In any case... it will be handled in a firm but appropriate manner."

Trump said he did not yet know whether Israel's strikes were justified.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered the army to respond forcefully to Hamas's ceasefire violations, which he described as "blatant."

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that aid deliveries to Gaza would resume on Monday, under pressure from the United States. Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are due to travel to Israel on Monday.
