The German Foreign Ministry has decided to recall Germany’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia, Peter Fischer, for consultations. This was stated in a statement by the ministry.
“The Georgian leadership has been conducting counter-propaganda against the European Union, Germany, and the German Ambassador, Peter Fischer, himself, for months. In response, it has been decided to recall the ambassador to discuss further steps. The issue of Georgia will be discussed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council tomorrow,” the statement said.
Georgian authorities, including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, have repeatedly accused the German ambassador of interfering in the country’s internal affairs and supporting revolutionary processes. In late September, Ambassador Fischer was summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, where he was informed that an ambassador should not interfere in the internal affairs of the host country.
