Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov spoke about the Putin-Trump phone call that ended a short time ago. He said Russia initiated the conversation.
The presidents of the two countries held their eighth phone call, which lasted 2.5 hours.
"The conversation between Putin and Trump focused on the Ukrainian crisis. Putin gave a detailed assessment of the situation in the Ukrainian crisis. The Russian armed forces maintain a full strategic initiative along the entire line of contact," Ushakov said.
He noted that during the conversation with Trump, Putin stressed Russia's commitment to a political and diplomatic settlement in Ukraine.
"The issue of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Kiev was raised during the conversation. Putin reiterated the thesis that the possible supply of missiles would not change the situation on the front, but would harm relations between Russia and the United States," he said.
Ushakov said that Putin and Trump discussed the possibility of a personal meeting. Representatives of Russia and the United States will immediately begin preparations for the summit.
"Preparations for the Putin-Trump summit will begin with a telephone conversation between Lavrov and Rubio. The date of the summit will become clearer as Rubio and Lavrov work together. The meeting between Putin and Trump may be organized in Budapest. Trump mentioned this place, and Putin supported the proposal. Representatives of the two countries will discuss possible dates," he said.
