US President Donald Trump has confused Iran with India. He mistakenly claimed during a speech on tariff policy that he had made peace between “Pakistan and Iran” by threatening to impose tariffs.
Tariffs are an essential tool for our national defense and security. If we don’t have tariffs, we don’t have national security. For example, look at Pakistan and Iran. I was negotiating a trade deal with Iran, and Pakistan had to get in line. And because of the tariffs, they completely changed their approach to the negotiations, and we almost got a good deal,” Trump said.
Trump also added that he had threatened the parties with 200% tariffs, after which the actions stopped within 24 hours.
