Unlike the rest of Europe, Finland never felt safe after the Winter War of 1939–40 and continued to build new bunkers.

There are now 50,500 of them, which can simultaneously shelter 4.8 million people (out of a population of 5.5 million). This is reported by the German Bild, noting that, for comparison, their number in Germany is 480,000, which is only 1 place for 174 people.

The bunkers are located at a depth of 20 meters and can accommodate 6,000 people. They can withstand a nuclear attack.

The magazine reports that maintaining the shelter is expensive, but it also brings a stable income: there are fitness centers, children's playgrounds, hockey fields, and underground parking.
