Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in Moscow on an official visit and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
The Kremlin has released the first video of the meeting between Putin and the Syrian leader. The Russian president said that relations between Moscow and Damascus have always been "guided by the interests of the Syrian people," and reiterated that they have been friendly.
"We have never had any relations related to our political conjuncture or special interests. We have always been guided by one thing throughout all these decades - the interests of the Syrian people," Putin said.
Al-Sharaa, in turn, stated that the Syrian authorities will honor all previously reached agreements with Russia.
"We are also connected by serious bridges of cooperation, including material ones, and we will continue to work in the future, trying to revive the complex of our relations," he said.
Before the visit, Reuters and several Arab media outlets reported that al-Sharaa could formally demand the extradition of Assad, who has been granted political asylum in Russia, during the Moscow talks.
