Venezuelan officials, seeking to end the confrontation with the United States, have offered the Donald Trump administration a significant stake in the country’s oil and other fields. The negotiations have lasted months, The New York Times writes.
The offer has remained on the table even as the Trump administration has labeled the government of Nicolas Maduro a drug cartel, sent warships to the Caribbean, and begun destroying ships.
According to the proposals, Maduro was ready to open oil and gold mining projects to American companies, grant them priority contracts, redirect oil flows from China to the United States, and renegotiate commodity agreements with China, Iran, and Russia.
