Record tourism in China: 888 million trips in eight days

China’s National Day holiday, which lasted from October 1 to 8, saw an unprecedented surge in the country’s tourism. Over the eight days, Chinese people made 888 million domestic trips, contributing about $113 billion to the country’s economy.

According to China’s CGTN, these figures confirm the World Bank’s forecast that China’s economy will grow by 4.8% this year. Massive flows of tourists flooded the country’s historic cities, including Nanjing, the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River, and dozens of other places. More than 16 million people crossed the border crossings.

Notably, tourists preferred not only big cities, but also mountain valleys and rural areas.
