Lecornu tries to save the situation

Outgoing French Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneille is making a last-ditch effort to unite rival parties in a bid to reach an agreement on the 2025 budget and avert the risk of snap elections.

Speaking outside the prime minister’s office, Le Corneille stressed that the likelihood of a parliament dissolution was “low” as political forces from different camps had shown “the willingness to adopt a budget for France by December 31.”

President Emmanuel Macron, now facing the most profound domestic political crisis of his presidency, has asked Le Corneille to remain as interim Prime Minister and attempt to find a compromise that would help stabilize the government. Le Corneille is expected to report to Macron later today.
