French Prime Minister presents new cabinet

On Sunday evening, French Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneille presented his cabinet, announcing the names of 15 ministers. Most of them are members of the previous government.

The formation of the new cabinet, which was completed after three weeks of negotiations, does not include significant changes. This has already become a reason for criticism from the opposition.

The composition of the government was officially announced by Emmanuel Moulin, Secretary General of the Élysée Palace, on the evening of October 5. Among the most significant changes are the appointment of Roland Lescure, a member of the “Renaissance” party, as Minister of Economy and Finance, as well as Bruno Le Maire, former mayor of Bercy, as Minister of the Armed Forces. Members of the cabinet of former Prime Minister Michel Bayrou mainly occupy the remaining ministerial positions.

The opposition said that the presented composition is “a continuation of Macron’s policies” without the “break” promised by Le Corneille.

The first meeting of the Council of Ministers is scheduled for Monday, October 6, at 4:00 p.m. French President Emmanuel Macron will chair the session.
