The normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia is an essential element of stability in the South Caucasus, said the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset.
"The establishment of peace in the South Caucasus is a crucial step that has been taken between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This step allows us to achieve calm, stability in the South Caucasus, and it is the only way to create positive prospects for the population of the entire region," he said.
Berset also emphasized that as the Secretary General of the organization, he had visited all three countries of the South Caucasus.
"I regularly communicate with different parties in the South Caucasus, because this region is significant for the Council of Europe and the entire European continent," he added.
