Ukrainians are unable to shoot down the upgraded Iskander-M and Kinzhal missiles

Russia has upgraded its Iskander-M and Kinzhal missiles to evade Patriot air defenses, and the interception rate fell sharply in September from 37% to 6%, according to the Financial Times.

According to the publication, as of August, the interception rate of Russian ballistic missiles by Ukraine had increased to 37% over the summer, but fell sharply in September, despite fewer launches.

Western officials point to several changes in the behavior of Russian missiles, noting that they are being upgraded to evade Patriot missiles. For example, the missiles are starting to behave differently during their approach, deviating from their intended course.

The FT reports that Ukraine is analyzing Russian attacks and sending data to the United States on changes to the Patriot system, indicating that an “adaptive game” is currently underway between Ukraine and Russia.
