US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced that his department supports the UN Security Council mechanism to reinstate sanctions on Iran.
Bessent stressed that “Iran’s support for terrorist proxies and pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens the security of the Middle East, the United States, and our allies.”
“In supporting the UN Security Council mechanism to reinstate sanctions on Iran, the Treasury Department is targeting Iranian arms procurement networks that support its ballistic missile and military aircraft programs. The Iranian regime’s support for terrorist proxies and pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens the security of the Middle East, the United States, and our allies around the world. Under President Trump’s leadership, we will deny the regime the weapons it can use to achieve its malign goals,” Bessent said.
