Some government agencies in the US will cease operations: document not adopted

The US Senate failed to pass either of the two bills that would fund federal spending. The Senate initially rejected the Democratic Party's bill to continue funding by a majority vote, as Democrats do not hold a majority in the Senate. Then, the Republican Party's bill was not adopted, despite Republicans having a majority, which was not enough to pass the bill.

Starting today, the work of some government agencies in the United States will be suspended. The American press refers to this as a "shutdown." Some employees will be sent on unpaid leave, while others will continue to work without pay. Additionally, many government programs and services will be suspended.

The White House Office of Management and Budget has published a report blaming the Democrats for this.

"The affected departments must now implement their own programs for an orderly 'shutdown', - the report states.

"It is unclear how long Democrats will maintain this untenable position, making it difficult to predict the duration of the shutdown," the Office of Management and Budget said.

While budget conflicts are common in American politics, this time the battle over spending is particularly acute, given that President Donald Trump has consistently reduced federal staff and spending over the past nine months.

The last time the government shut down was in late 2018, during Donald Trump's first term.
