The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is left without an external energy supply. Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant has been without an external power supply for a week.

"The situation is critical. Due to Russian shelling, the plant has been disconnected from the power supply, from the power grid. Diesel generators provide a power supply. This is an emergency. The generators and the plant are not designed to operate in such conditions and have never operated in such conditions for so long. We have information that one of the generators has been out of operation. It is the Russians who are hindering the repair of the power grid of the plant and the restoration of basic security through shelling," he wrote on Telegram.

The Ukrainian president added that he had held a meeting with representatives of the military and the Ministry of Energy, instructing the Ministry of Energy, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to draw the attention of the international community to this situation.

Earlier, Zelensky reported that he had discussed the situation at the Zapadnaya NPP with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"It is important that the world knows about the possible consequences. We hope for an appropriate response," the president said.
