YouTube to pay Trump $24.5 million

YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million (approximately 21 million euros) to settle a lawsuit filed by US President Donald Trump. This is related to the temporary blocking of his account after the riots at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The AP agency reports this.

Under the terms of the agreement, $22 million of this amount will be transferred to the Trust for the National Mall, the organization responsible for the construction of the White House Hall. The remaining $2.5 million will be divided between other plaintiffs in the case, including writer Naomi Wolf and the American Conservative Union.

Trump's Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts were blocked after his supporters, dissatisfied with the results of the presidential election, stormed the Capitol building. The management of social networks decided that Trump contributed to the action with his messages.
