The internet is completely shut down in Afghanistan

The Taliban, which rules Afghanistan, in a crackdown on what they see as "immoral" activities, completely shut down the country's internet on Monday, the international internet monitoring service NetBlocks reported.

There were also disruptions to telephone services.

Several residents of Kabul told the BBC that by the end of the day, around 5 pm local time, internet service via fibre optic cables had stopped working.

AFP reported that it had lost both internet and telephone connections to its Kabul office.

There were severe disruptions to mobile internet and satellite television services across Afghanistan. In addition, flights from the city's airport were also cancelled, according to reports from Kabul.
