The Taliban movement announced the release of American citizen Amir Amiry. The former prisoner was handed over to Adam Buehler, the US President’s special envoy for hostage affairs.
Earlier this month, the US ambassador held talks with the Taliban about a possible prisoner exchange.
Little is known about the circumstances of Amiry’s arrest. According to a source familiar with the situation, Amiry has been in custody since December 2024. He will undergo a medical examination in the Qatari capital of Doha before returning home.
