Any attempt by Israel to annex parts of the West Bank would be a red line for the United States and would mark the end of normalization of Arab-Israeli diplomatic relations, Emmanuel Macron said, claiming that this guarantee was given to him by Donald Trump.
Macron also said that he had presented the US leader with a three-page plan for the future of Palestine, based on the New York Declaration, a document approved by more than 143 countries, which proposes excluding Hamas from future governance of Gaza and the West Bank.
Asked about Israeli plans to expand settlements in the West Bank, including the construction of the E1 corridor, which involves the construction of 3,400 new homes, he said: "On this issue, the Europeans and the Americans are very clearly of the same opinion."
However, Macron has stated that any attempt to annex the West Bank would jeopardize the Abraham Accords, one of the success stories of the first Trump administration.
"The United Arab Emirates has made that clear. I think that is a red line for the United States," Macron stressed.
