A shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Dallas has left one person dead and several others injured. The shooter, according to official reports, committed suicide.
The attack was carried out from the roof of a nearby building.
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the suspect opened fire on the office, including a van parked at the entrance to the building. One detainee died at the scene, and two others were seriously injured. Their identities have not been released.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo on the X social media platform showing the suspect's unused ammunition. According to him, one of the shells was engraved with "ANTI-ICE." "While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary information indicates an ideological motive," Patel wrote.
US Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem confirmed in an interview with Fox News that the suspect targeted ICE.
Noem confirmed media reports that the shooter was 29-year-old Joshua Jan. He fired from a nearby rooftop. His older brother, Noah (30), told Reuters he was unaware of Joshua's possible negative attitude toward ICE.
US President Donald Trump and members of his administration have described the incident as "another example of left-wing, politically motivated violence." They have accused California Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democrats of "slandering law enforcement and conservatives and inciting hatred."
Trump, on the Truth Social platform, has accused "far-left Democrats" of inciting violence against ICE by "constantly demonizing law enforcement, calling for the abolition of ICE, and comparing its employees to Nazis." Citing the recent killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, he declared that "far-left terrorists are a serious threat" and must be "stopped." Trump added that he would sign an executive order in the coming days to "dismantle these domestic terrorist networks," but provided no evidence that they were operating in an organized manner.
