French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the recognition of the statehood of Palestine.
“Today, I announce the recognition of the state of Palestine by France. There is no justification for the continuation of military operations by Israel in Gaza; it is time to stop the war,” he said at a conference on the Palestinian issue at the UN headquarters in New York.
According to the French leader, the recognition of Palestine by Paris “will open the way for negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.”
“There is a chance for peace. We must all work to activate the mechanisms of peace,” he stressed.
Macron announced that France is ready to participate in the international stabilization mission in Gaza and, together with its European partners, support programs to train and equip Palestinian security forces.
