Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has referred to what is happening in Gaza, describing it as genocide.
"There is no other explanation for this. This is a real genocide. The culprit for this genocide is Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."
Erdogan made these statements in New York, where he traveled to participate in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. He gave an interview to the American Fox News channel, touching on important issues of international politics.
He clarified Turkey's position, in particular, on the genocide in Gaza and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
When asked by the host, "Is what is happening in Gaza a genocide?" Erdogan replied: "There is no other explanation. This is a real genocide. The culprit for this genocide is Netanyahu."
"Netanyahu mercilessly killed tens of thousands of people during this genocide. We, Turkey, are categorically against this genocide," Erdogan added, noting that there are also more than 125,000 wounded in Gaza, some of whom have been transferred to Turkey for treatment.
Erdogan noted that in his speeches, he often shows photos reflecting the situation in Gaza following Israeli strikes. "Can we say that Hamas is more powerful than Israel in terms of weapons? No, that is impossible. Israel uses these weapons mercilessly against everyone, from 7 to 70 years old, without discrimination: women, children, the elderly."
In response to a question about ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Erdogan stated, "Remember, Mr. Trump said: 'I will stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.' Has it stopped? No, it continues. In the same way, he said: 'I will stop the war in Gaza.' Has it stopped? No."
Erdogan also stated that he "does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization," but rather a "resistance organization."
