The EU strongly supports the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. Statement

The EU reaffirms its commitment to peace, stability, and economic development in the South Caucasus. This is stated in a statement by EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos on her visits to Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“The EU strongly supports the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and stands ready to invest in regional connectivity. By opening trade routes, integrating infrastructure, and bringing people together, we can turn today’s opportunity into lasting peace and shared prosperity. The statements made during my visit reinforced this vision with concrete resources, translating recent diplomatic progress into tangible results for the entire region,” the statement said.

In Azerbaijan, Commissioner Kos agreed to establish a high-level economic working group to strengthen EU-Azerbaijan economic cooperation and promote investments under the Global Gateway. In addition, €23 million will be allocated to Azerbaijan for demining under the Team Europe initiative.

According to the report, Armenia also announced the adoption of the second tranche of €270 million from the EU Stability and Growth Programme, bringing the total amount to €202.5 million. This funding will strengthen reforms and socio-economic stability.

The EU will also support Armenia’s democratic resilience and electoral transparency ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections.
