EU proposes ban on Russian liquefied gas imports

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU plans to ban the import of Russian liquefied natural gas into European markets with the new 19th package of sanctions.

The package also includes several additional restrictions:

Sanctions have been imposed against an additional 118 Russian "shadow vessels", bringing the total number of vessels to more than 560.

A ban on imports of products from major energy companies Rosneft and Gazprom Neft, as well as restrictions on Russian oil refineries and similar companies in third countries, including China.

A ban on transactions with new Russian banks in third countries to prevent the circumvention of sanctions.
Restrictions against several third countries, including China, for supporting Russia's defense industry.

According to the European Commission, 45 Russian and foreign companies are included in this package.

"In three years, Russia's oil revenues in Europe have fallen by 90 percent. Now we are turning that page. The package also aims to close financial loopholes," von der Leyen said.
