Lithuania uncovers terrorist network with ties to Russia

The Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office and the Criminal Police Bureau reported that they have identified and arrested a group of individuals suspected of organizing and carrying out bombings in various European countries.

According to preliminary investigation data, the crimes were organized and coordinated by individuals with ties to Russian military intelligence.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, one of the detainees, A. Sh., a Lithuanian citizen born in 1973, is accused of sending packages equipped with improvised explosive devices to the United Kingdom and Poland.

Investigators found that A. Sh. sent a total of four such packages from Vilnius using the international delivery services of DHL and DPD.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the first package was sent on July 20, 2024, and exploded in Germany, using a pre-installed electronic timer, just as it was about to be loaded onto a DHL cargo plane en route from Vilnius to Leipzig to the United Kingdom.

The second package exploded and caught fire in a DPD truck passing through Poland the following day, on July 21.
