EU to accelerate cessation of Russian fuel imports

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced that a new 19th package of sanctions against Russia will be presented soon. According to her, the measures will target cryptocurrencies, banks, and the energy sector, particularly.

Von der Leyen noted that the EU and the United States will continue to take joint steps to increase economic pressure on Russia. She emphasized that Moscow’s “war economy” is fueled by revenues from fossil fuels, which finance the ongoing bloodshed in Ukraine.

“To end the war, the Commission will propose to accelerate the cessation of imports of Russian fossil fuels,” the head of the European Commission emphasized in her statement.
