Special Representative for the Turkey-Armenia Normalization Process, Ambassador Serdar Kilic, visited Igdir to hold some meetings. He met with Igdir Governor Ercan Turan.
Kilic stated in an interview with reporters that they have some work to do with the Armenian special representative. “We will review these works and confirm the steps taken previously. We will discuss what can be done in the future to improve the economic life of the two countries, especially in this region.”
He emphasized the importance of the Zangezur route and noted:
“This communication route is vital. The Zangezur route is important not only for communication between Turkey and Armenia, but also for establishing connections with the entire Central Asia and the Turkic states. We hope that, with the instructions of Mr. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we will open this route in the near future and contribute to the economies of the two countries, especially Igdir and Kars.”
Kilic noted that the Armenian side also has a positive attitude towards these issues. “Today they announced, ‘We are ready to open our border.’ Naturally, they also look positively at steps that meet everyone’s interests. Some projects need to be implemented before technical work can be done, but we have no problems with the intention.”
Igdir Governor Ercan Turan also noted that his province borders three countries. “Our province also views this whole process with great enthusiasm. Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, constructive negotiations are underway with all our neighboring countries. We have the Alijan border crossing, and recently, we laid the foundation for the 124-kilometer Diluju-Kars railway in connection with the Zangezur route.”
The diplomat noted that the delegation he led will leave for Yerevan via the Alijan border crossing in Igdir to hold several meetings.
