Lukashenko pardons 52 political prisoners

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has pardoned 14 foreigners who were imprisoned. In total, 52 political prisoners were released: 14 foreigners and 38 Belarusians.

The Belarusian president described this action as a request from the US president and other heads of state and as a manifestation of goodwill based on the principles of humanity.

It is reported that six of the foreigners are citizens of Lithuania, two each from Latvia and Poland, and one each from Germany, France, and Britain.

They were detained in Belarus for their participation in the 2020 presidential election campaign and opposition claims, which the current Belarusian government denies.
