In a video message to the nation following the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, US President Donald Trump blamed the "radical left" for the rise in terrorism in the United States.
"The radical left has compared decent Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the worst criminals in history. This rhetoric leads directly to the terrorism we are seeing in our country today, and it must stop immediately," Trump said.
The US president promised that his government would find everyone involved in this atrocity and other acts of political violence, including the organizations that fund and support them.
In the message, Trump mentioned the 2024 assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania, the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in downtown New York, and the 2017 stabbing of Republican Congressman Steve Scalise. He did not, however, mention the assassination attempts on Democrats.
"Radical left-wing violence has claimed too many innocent lives," Trump said.
He called the slain Kirk "a victim of truth and freedom."
