Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the country is closer to armed conflict than it has been since World War II.
Warsaw has formally requested NATO to activate Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, stressing that Poland needs more than just expressions of solidarity.
“This changes the political situation. Therefore, the consultations of the allies turned into a formal request to activate Article 4 of the treaty,” Tusk said.
Recall that Article 4 of the treaty allows any NATO member to raise an issue for discussion within the alliance, but it does not imply an immediate military response.
Tusk also noted that 19 incursions into Polish airspace were recorded last night alone, of which four drones were shot down. According to him, the majority of the drones entered Poland from Belarus.
