Polish Defense Ministry accuses Moscow of aggression

The Polish Armed Forces announced early Wednesday that they had shot down drones that had violated their airspace during Russia's attack on neighboring Ukraine, the first major provocation for European and NATO forces.

"Today's attack by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine resulted in an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drones. This act of aggression was a real threat to the security of our citizens," the Polish military command said in a statement.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that a military response operation was underway in connection with multiple violations of Polish airspace, and said that the military had used weapons against the targets.

"The security of our homeland is our top priority," President Karol Nawrocki wrote in his X post, adding that he would hold a briefing at Poland's National Security Council in the coming hours.

According to a report published in X, President Karol Nawrocki's meeting with the National Security Council has ended.
