European Commission suspends aid to Israel

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has spoken in the European Parliament. She announced that the European Commission is suspending its support for Israel.

"We will suspend all relevant payments. I know that for some, these measures are too far-reaching, for others, they are not enough. But we all have to fulfill our responsibility," she said.

Von der Leyen called the footage released from Gaza catastrophic and stressed that hunger should not be used as a weapon. The idea of a new Israeli settlement undermines the vision of a viable Palestinian state.

"We cannot allow this," she stressed.

At the same time, the head of the European Commission made it clear that Hamas must be destroyed.

"There can be no place for Hamas, neither now nor in the future. "They are terrorists who not only want to destroy Israel, but also terrorize their own people," the European Commission President said.
